Forum with Financial Institutions on the Implementation of AfCFTA in Ghana
One sector that has been identified as key in implementing the AfCFTA in Ghana is the Financial Sector. Their critical role in facilitating payments, trade finance and promoting industrial development and the private sector cannot be over-emphasized.
Against this backdrop, the NCO organized a one-day forum with Financial Institutions on the implementation of the AfCFTA in Ghana on 16th December 2021 at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra.
The general objective of the forum was to create a platform for dialogue among financial sector players on the implementation of the AfCFTA. The forum also discussed gaps and challenges that need to be addressed and opportunities available for financial institutions under the AfCFTA.
The forum was attended mainly by representatives from institutions within the banking and insurance sector including the Bank of Ghana, Ghana EXIM Bank, the Ghana Association of Bankers, the National Insurance Commission and other leading Commercial banks and Insurance companies in the country; as well as representatives from local trade unions and public institutions with mandates in export promotion.
The forum resulted in the establishment of AfCFTA focal points (AfCFTA Facilitation Desks) at 12 public and private financial institutions.
